The history of Stroud dates back to the thirteenth century. Surrounded by beautiful Stroudwater Hills in the Stroud Valley of South Cotswolds, this bustling town was once a key hub for the cloth industry. Weaving started here during the medieval period and became a key industry by the nineteenth century. By 1600s, Stroud had a fair and market and had grown a great deal in size. Historically, the economy of the town was based on the clothing industry, but that declined later and has been replaced by tourism in recent times.

the Cotswolds, an area of exceptional natural beauty being managed

consists of a “lost garden” as well as a network of five lakes
scattered through the landscaped parkland, whose design dates back to
the eighteenth century. There is also an array of marked walking
trails for visitors.
Sim’s Clock: This is one of the most distinctive landmarks in Stroud. Standing at the junction of London Road, Russell Street and George Street, Sim’s Tower is surrounded by fine buildings. It was named after Williams Thomas Sim, a former civic leader and grocer, who bequested the clock to the town in 1917 before his death. Completed in the year 1921, the neo-classical 24-ft monument is constructed from Bath stone.
